Here are a few tips to help make your application stand out.
It won’t be a surprise to you that the fund receives a lot of applications. The trustees have to follow the guidance set out by Elizabeth & Richard Wilson as to how they wished their legacy to be distributed.
Be relevant. The Trust accepts applications from organisations or individuals in Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and the surrounding rural area, to further the religious and charitable work of the Church of England & Methodist Church and for the upkeep of their churches and chapels. Grants are available to help young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, to support under 18s through scholarships, bursaries, maintenance allowances etc. and to further to objectives of the Scout & Guide Association or any other charitable youth organisation and therefore evidence of this outcome should be clear in the application form.
Be realistic. Typical successful grants range from £50 to £5,000. Given the limited resources of the fund it is intended to support more causes with smaller amounts rather than just a few.
Be concise. Make your application quick and easy to understand so that it stands out from the pile.
Be clear. Why are you making the application? What is the expected outcome of a successful application. What difference will it make to you personally?
